Dreams Archive

2023

Eva Frappiccini is a visual artist who explores themes of memory and the archive through photography and public participation. Her project, Dreams Archive, stems from the need to give concrete form to over ten years of research. Throughout this period, she traveled worldwide to collect people’s dreams and understand how they shift according to their cultural and social contexts.
The editorial project needed to reflect the hybrid nature of this research: on one hand, the visual evocation of dreams; on the other, the scientific analysis of the collected data. To achieve this, the publication was designed with a double-ended structure: the book is divided into two sections which can be read in opposite directions. The first, Research in Practice, presents the artist’s multimedia works, while the second, Reader, gathers scientific contributions related to the project.
My work focused on transforming this collection into a solid, finely-crafted object, composed of 15 signatures and defined by a strong tactile quality. On the cover, a white silkscreen print turns light blue when applied to deep blue textured paper, while hot foil stamping highlights the technical details. The volume was printed by Grafiche Veneziane, a historic Venetian printing house.
