Waves IUAV
2023
During my collaboration with Bruno, I redesigned the visual identity of Waves 2023, the historic architecture workshop of the Iuav University of Venice. The workshop engages students in the development of a shared project with a focus on environmental, social, and cultural sustainability. This edition represented a historic milestone for the university, marking the first time the workshops were opened to all disciplines: from Architecture and Urbanism to Design and Fashion, Visual Arts, Theatre, and Performing Arts.
That year’s theme addressed rising sea levels, the required systems of defense and adaptation, and their impact on the environment. The visual identity was born directly from the reasoning on the form of the MOSE, the Venetian barrier against high water. Its solid, bold, and yellow structure inspired a typography that, by splitting and moving in parallel, recalls the movement of the barrier as it interacts with the waves.
The identity took shape through various channels and media, adapting to different formats and supports. We designed posters, banners, the website, signage, social media content, and two publications, one of which was entirely designed to archive and document the processes and final results of the workshops.
